Reviews
The atmosphere and service were excellent. Despite the quiet location, all the tables were full and the music was good. The tea selections were also very good.
However, unfortunately the drinks fell short. We purchased a takeaway matcha latte and black sesame latte, both of which were very milky and flavourless. Although the drinks were creamy, they lacked any body or character.
I will be coming back tentatively on my partner’s word that the dine-in options are better, and to buy some tea as a present. However, as much as I love to support local I cannot recommend the takeaway options.
A wide range of ‘real’ teas. Proper, high quality Chinese teas plus a range of beautiful teaware. May seem a little expensive for a pot of tea, but these teas can be brewed multiple times and the friendly staff regularly top up your glass teapot.
Nice tea and cake cafe. Love their freshly baked cakes. Try the lychee rose, it tastes so good.
Can't leave Sydney without the Aged Ginger latte 🧡
The texture is creamy and no overpowering in terms of sweetness. Very nice alternative to tumeric latte and great to have on a cooler day or funny tummy.
Also the tea sets and teas in store are for sale and they are absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you for the epic drink 🥰
We've been keen to check Tea Journal out after walking past a few times and checking online reviews.
After arriving at the front of the store, we were quite impressed with the unique vibe which the entire place exudes of given the strong focus on tea and even calligraphy.
Whilst waiting to be seated, we ended up chatting to a customer of Tea Journal sitting near the front counter who recommended that we try the Black Tea Rose & Pistachio cake ($15), so we ordered that along with a hot Hojicha latte and Matcha latte (both amended to soy milk).
The overall taste was subtle but not mindblowingly impressive. The cake was presented well, with a moist and fresh cake layer but there was a heavy usage of cream on the outside. As a result, in our opinion it wasn't really worth the $15 price tag.
The drinks were also presented well, but the taste was so-so (which a few other reviews have already noted). Overall, still worth checking this place out if you're a fan of all things tea and want to try something which is guaranteed to be not too heavy on the palate.
The ambience is very cozy, and is an ideal place for studying or catching up with friends. The cakes are decent, however quite pricy for their size. The drinks are alright varying on taste, and on the more bitter side.
This is a beautiful, calming place to come when coffee just won't cut it. Such a wide variety of teas, sauces and pots make this whole tea-drinking experience top notch. The owner was friendly and carefully suggested some flavours I might like. I got a top up too, which made my time there all the better.
Really amazing place and the owner/ staff is very kind and being helpful to all customers.
His attention to detail was impeccable he noticed I came with a friend and without asking he served the cake with 2 gold Dessert Forks with 2 serviettes.
The place interiors are amazing , they sell great teapot set and premium teas.
The cake 🍰 taste fantastic/ delicious and Perfect in texture ( light , not heavy or dense/ enough sweetness, perfect for healthy cake options)
As a tea lover I would love to try different teas and this is a great destination for an enjoyable tea experience
